Top Ten 2014 Debuts I'm Excited For

Many thanks to The Broke and the Bookish for being the creative force behind this meme every week!

We get a new class of debut authors every year. Some of them become international bestsellers. Some barely break into the public eye. I've heard lots of hype on 2014 debut titles, but here are a few that have caught my eye. Fingers crossed they turn out to be good. :)

Top Ten 2014 Debuts I'm Excited For

I've been dying to read Cruel Beauty for a while. I love fairy tale retellings and this sounds like a unique twist on Beauty and the Beast. Illusive was pitched as X-Men meets Ocean's Eleven. Need I say more? And Sekret features psychic spooks in the Cold War. Yes.

Gilded is about a Korean-American girl and takes place in Seoul, where one of my high school friends lives. I haven't read many books set in Korea, but I'd be happy to change that. Camelot Burning: steampunk Arthurian legend. Yes, please. And Dear Killer ... it's about a serial killer, but I'm more excited to see how the author handles transitioning a character who thinks in black and white to a world of grays.

Control has a big sister trying to rescue her little sister with a little genetic manipulation in the background. I'm just hoping the "romance" in the synopsis isn't too big a factor. The Murder Complex: a trained killer meets another trained killer. It's like showing guys in red on Star Trek; there's going to be a blood bath. Tabula Rasa ... no cover yet, but "The Bourne Identity meets Divergent." Definitely potential there.

And last but not least, The Jewel. It has no cover and very little description (it's not out until September), but the general idea sounds intriguing: "dark fairytale world where technology and magic intermingle."

I'm looking forward to discovering more awesome debuts as the year goes on and more information and pretty covers are added to the book databases. Are there any debut authors you're excited about this year?
