Top 10 Reasons I Love Being a Reader

A weekly meme by The Broke and the Bookish

I'm always a little amazed and appalled when someone says he/she doesn't read much. Intellectually, I understand all the reasons why many people don't enjoy reading. Emotionally, I'm thinking, really? Why not?! Reading is kind of a lifelong obsession of mine, so I'm pretty attached to it. This week's challenge is to explain why or die trying. So, in no particular order:

Top 10 Reasons I Love Being a Reader
  1. I love stories. Being a reader means hearing story after story after story after- you get the idea.
  2. I never have to worry about running out of reading material. There are far more books in the world than I will ever be able to read.
  3. Reading is the ultimate escape. Nothing is quite like curling up with an awesome book and blocking out everything else.
  4. It's like being an art collector, but it's art that takes a long time to look at and has tons of pictures in one small box. (And books make wonderful decor items, too.)
  5. I love the depth I get from reading. A girl I babysit asked me recently why I loved reading instead of, say, TV. She said reading was one-dimensional. I said all the things you see on a TV show or in a movie- characters, cinematography/framing, mood/atmosphere, settings- when I read, I see all these things. The right language can evoke all of this and more.
  6. Books have made me think and question and imagine and rethink. God has given me some major thinking moments through reading.
  7. Readers get to go to awesome book events! Like BEA, which I am attending for the first time this year. Power Reader Day only, I'm afraid, but wish me luck!
  8. I always have something to do. Whether the weather is storming or sunny, I have the perfect way to enjoy myself.
  9. Because, back in school, reading homework was never work. Unless I hated the book. But Hamlet! Wuthering Heights! So much laughter; such good times.
  10. I love being a reader because it's fun.
That's all for now, folks. Swing by tomorrow for evidence of how my reading obsession has led to a book buying addiction. :D

  1. I love that you mention that you love reading because you will never run out of books to read. How true is that? :) I WISH I could read them all! But it's so not happening. Thanks for visiting my TTT. :)

    1. I know! It's probably just as well, though. If there were a chance I could read every book ever written, I'd probably never leave the house...or sleep. And you're very welcome. I always love seeing the Top 10's you've come up with. :)
