Top 10 Book Cover Trends
A weekly meme by The Broke and the Bookish
This week's theme is "Top 10 Book Cover Trends (or just elements of covers) I Like/Dislike." First, full disclaimer: I haven't read any of these books, I have no idea what some of them are about and my comments are in no way, shape or form a reflection on their contents. I'm just offering my opinion about the covers. Extra emphasis on opinion. Not fact, not gospel, just thoughts. :)
What do you think of this year's crop of book covers? Any you love? Any you hate?

I hate the trend, mostly in YA, or a real thin font being used as a title overlay. Hard to read, covers up the art anyway, and just makes the cover look cluttered.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Maybe they figure easy readability for the title isn't as important as a distinctive look because so many people look at books online where the title text is printed next to the cover?
DeleteI am also quite a fan of text as art. I had Ruin and Rising as one of the books I wanted to include, but couldn't quite figure out what it was I liked about it so much, so thank you for making my brain finally cooperate ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou are most welcome!
DeleteI see a trend with those covers :) Great picks!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I had about 20 covers picked out, but I narrowed it down to a few representatives. :)
Deletewhere did my comment gooooooooooo
ReplyDeletegrr ok not writing the entire thing over - but yes excellent examples, creepy staring, no - illustrated covers yes, sideways font...no
ReplyDeleteOh no! I hate it when comments randomly disappear. :( I'm glad I'm not the only one bothered by the creepy staring and sideways letters. :)
DeleteI love these! Specially Shattered World, Winner's Curse and Midnight Thief. I love pretty covers and do place close attention to the fonts. Great job :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! Good covers definitely pique my curiosity, which is maybe why I can't wait to read Midnight Thief. :)
