Top 10 Favorite Animated Movies

A weekly meme by The Broke and the Bookish

Much as I love books, I'm also a major movie and TV watcher. It's nearly impossible for me to choose only 10 favorites, so for today we'll go with (some of) my top animated picks! So, in no particular order...

Top 10 Favorite Animated Movies:

How to Train Your Dragon - Toothless! And that flying scene! I'm still kicking myself years later for not seeing it on the big screen.
Kung Fu Panda - It was so original and did so many things right.

Beauty and the Beast - Despite the Stockholm Syndrome, one of the best Disney romances plus great music and a bookish main character.
Mulan - Disney finally threw the damsel in distress out the door and gave us...Donny Osmond singing "Be a Man!"

The Incredibles - A tribute to classic superheroes and the tropes of the genre as well as a relevant family drama.
Castle in the Sky - Or really anything by Hayao Miazaki. Because you can't have a list of animated movies without mentioning Miyazaki.

Treasure Planet - It's kind of steampunk, but with sailing ships in space. It's spacepunk! And pirates!
The Emperor's New Groove - You already know I love this film. ;)

Cats Don't Dance - A tribute to classic Hollywood filled with anthropomorphic critters with singing and dancing chops.
Prince of Egypt - Great animation, great music, beautiful scenes and good casting. :)

Thanks for stopping by and check back in tomorrow for this week's Updates! In which I reveal my painting-thing and books that survived the neighbor's porch. :)

  1. Oh dear. So many of these I haven't seen. Everyone raves about How to Train your dragon. I need to watch it! I do love Beauty and the Beast and it's been ages since I watched Prince of Egypt. I forgot about that one. I need to see The Emperor's New Groove and all of Mulan. I'm a failure! I've seen all of the princess movies, though :).

    1. Definitely watch HTTYD! People rave for good reason. :) And yes! You must watch Emperor's New Groove, too. And Mulan! The "Be a Man" reprise! So yeah, basically pop a few bags of popcorn and settle in for a movie marathon. :)

  2. I have seen Emperor's New Groove well over fifty times. It is in my top quotable moveis of all time, right with Top Gun, Tombstone, Young Frankenstein, and The Princess Bride.

  3. I know I watched How to Train Your Dragon shortly after it was released on DVD, and I remember being pleasantly surprised. But man...I don't remember anything else about it. I should see if it is on Netflix or Prime...
Also, totally glad to see Prince of Egypt on here! I think it was so well done and it is underappreciated! Great list!

    1. Really? Not even the flying scene? :( But yes, go watch it again! Dreamworks Animation did a couple of nice films back in the day before they became big with CG, like Sinbad and The Road to El Dorado. And then Fox had Anastasia and Nest did the Swan Princess trilogy. (Yay! Finally a use for this random movie trivia!)
