Updates: Clay Things, Books & Blog Design

I hope everyone had a lovely holiday weekend here in the States. My beach plans washed out, but I did see "How to Train Your Dragon 2" at the drive-in! And yes, it was pretty good, especially for a sequel.

My finished pottery pieces survived and made it home! They're only a couple inches high and I'm not exactly sure what they are. Jars? Candle holders? Inkwells? Soy sauce dishes? Clay things? Whatever, they are, they're alive! And the professionals trimmed up the bottoms and did the glazing, so they actually look kind of nice. :)

I have plans to hit another pottery workshop later this month, and maybe a painting event. Fingers crossed! Also, in case you missed it, I did my first "real" digital painting for this weekend's special July 4th Captain America fan art. :) And in book news...

Read this Week:

Unfortunately, I wasn't thrilled with either of these books. :( But I'm slowly making headway through the piles of unread books on my shelves. :)

Quick Blog Design/Content Question:
I've been wondering whether to add a widget in the sidebar with the covers of recently reviewed books and links to my reviews. Would anyone be interested in seeing that and/or do you look for that sort of thing when visiting blogs in general?

Thanks for stopping in and check back tomorrow for my review of ACID by Emma Pass!

  1. I really didn't enjoy the Schwarz book either, and saw very few reviews for it back in the day when it came out.

    1. I saw the third book up on Edelweiss yesterday, but I don't think I'll continue with the series. The execution fell flat for me. Oh well, on to the next steampunk read, right? :)

  2. I think it helps to add pictures of your recent reviews in the sidebar, it helps a new visitor see what kind of book you read. Plus they look pretty :D

    1. Thanks! I think I might. Reviews are only 1/5 of my weekly posts, but that means only one will show up in my Recent Posts widget. I have the review pages, but an easy sidebar link would be helpful for people who look for reviews first. :)

  3. Lovely pottery pieces! You'll figure out what to use them for eventually. :) I do look for Recent Reviews widgets when I go on blogs. I'm more likely to look through those than troll through a million reviews on the book reviews tab. I'll only do that if I like what I see in the Recent Reviews widget.

    1. Thank you! So you go straight for the reviews? Cool! I'll have to see about messing with the coding for that. Unfortunately, I don't think Blogger has a premade widget.

  4. Your pots turned out so cute!! :)

I say go for it with adding the recently reviewed to the side bar.

    1. Thank you! And the recently reviewed widget is officially on my to-do list. :)

  5. The pot on the left would be PERFECT for an inkwell!!
I think the recently reviewed widget is something that can often times look nice on a blog, but I don't always pay attention too.

    1. There you go! Now I just have to learn how to use a quill. >.> I'm like you; I don't always pay tons of attention to the recently reviewed widget, but it would look nice...and my sidebar is a tad bare. Thanks the thoughts!

  6. I always look for a recent reviews cover widget because then i know instantly what they've reviewed that I missed (without having to dig in archives) and for new blogs it lets me know if I have enough in common with them to bother following. If I don't recognize at least a third of the books I usually don't bother - or if they are all mostly books I know and just have no interest in (like contemp etc) then I don't bother following.

    1. Convenience is a powerful factor. ;) And the types of books reviewed are very telling. It sounds like you have perfected your method! :)

  7. They look like inkwells and I think they are FABULOUS :D I haven't read either of those two books you've read! The covers are cool :) And about the widget - to be completely honest, I don't really care for or pay attention to countdown widgets. Just my opinion :)

    1. Thank you! I've already signed up for another workshop this month. :) The covers are cool! And yet so misleading...unless, maybe, you like romance? ;) Countdown? Oh no, I just mean covers of books I've recently reviewed with links to my reviews. Despite my OCD organization in some areas, I've managed to not go schedule-crazy with the blog/reading...yet. >.>
