Updates: Busy and Behind Schedule

This week flew by! I got sucked in by Netflix, picked up my finished clay things, helped my cousin with her fixer upper house, saw "The Giver," and caught the very beginning of the new Dr. Who season. The cousin and her brother-in-law already tore out the pegboard walls (yep, pegboard) and stapled ceiling tiles, so we packed everything up in contractor bags and hauled the larger pieces out to the curb. Then we spent an hour pulling the bazillion staples out of the ceiling joists so she can install drywall. Handiness!

And the results of my war with the pottery wheel, take 2:

They didn't trim up the bottoms neatly like last time, but I really like the glaze, and the one might be big enough for candy!

I also updated my Reviews page- which is now one page instead of three and should open on iPads and iPhones- and added a Recent Reviews widget! Feel free to check them out and let me know what you think of the new look. In other book news...

Received in the Mail:

My Better World Books order came in, as did my copy of Caught (with the right cover). And now I want to drop everything and read the new pretties, but no. There are many other books on the shelves and table drop zone that take precedence. Back of the line, newbies!

Read:

Not my best reading week, but I made it through this fairy tale-inspired short story collection. I started The Lies of Locke Lamora, BUT... I failed to get through my friend's manuscript this weekend, and I promised her I'd have it read and critiqued by the end of the month, so Lamora is on hold.

That's it for this week. Thanks for stopping in and check back tomorrow for my review of A Conspiracy of Alchemists by Liesel Schwarz!

  1. Is this your first venturing into Pern? Or are you collecting an old favorite now?

    1. Thank you! Blogger doesn't have a pre-coded widget (that I know of), so I just used the html from my Review Archives page and adjusted the image size. It requires manual updating, but it's simple enough, even I can do it. :)

  3. I've gotten sucked into "Covert Affairs" on Amazon Prime, lol. I know how that goes.

    The pots turned out cute!

I like the new recent review widget.

  5. Actually, I'll be thrilled when this weekend is over, considering I have a 9-5 on both Saturday and Monday for the holiday. Ah the joys of having an actual adult-ish job. XD -sigh- Then college courses begin again. That I am excited for! =D

    1. Haha, I only caught the first 15 minutes before I had to give someone a ride, so not really enough to form a firm opinion. I plan to go back and catch up eventually. I'm figuring, as with any Dr. switch, it'll take a little time to get used to the new one.

  7. Oooooo I hope you really enjoyed Locke!! I really love the pots, the glaze is gorgeous :D When I was throwing I had to do my own trimming so I sometimes failed (ie went through the bottom) but at least I knew how things were going to come out, that's so frustrating that they didn't trim the foot for you :(

    1. Thank you! I remember they briefly showed up the trimming tool the first time I was there, but it wasn't passed around or anything. Probably just as well. My hands were so clumsy that night, I probably would have destroyed the only two left standing.
