Updates: Third Time's the Charm

It's been a fun week! Busy, but fun. Last Friday I went to an author event and got a copy of Anna and the French Kiss signed by Stephanie Perkins. Turns out we both watch way too many Hallmark movies. She said she was addicted to their Christmas movie marathons, so I had to ask whether she noticed the trend of creepy Santa Clauses. She has, and next thing you know, we're describing three or four of the movies and immediately recognizing which ones they are. It's pretty bad, but not nearly as sad as the fact that I can now recognize several Hallmark movies by one line of dialogue and/or bar of background music alone...without seeing the TV. ;)

I went to another pottery wheel workshop on Saturday, my third, and it went well! There were only four of us, so we got lots of individual instruction from the teacher. I didn't walk away completely frustrated, and I'm kind of proud of my four pieces. Pray they survive the firing, right?

Remember when I said "slowly making progress." Yes, emphasis on the "slow." It's fall, which means everything slams into you at once. This week in particular is a real doozy. I got farther into Chasing Power, which hasn't improved. I'll finish it, but this is probably a 2-star unless it seriously wows me with the remaining 35%. :(

Heads up! I'm participating in my first giveaway hop, which starts this Saturday. Make sure you check in to see my stop on the Stuck in a Good Book hop!

That's it for this week's happenings! Thanks for stopping in and check back tomorrow for my review of Illusive by Emily Lloyd-Jones! X-Men meets Ocean's Eleven. Need I say more? :)

  1. September is full of awesome author events! I got to meet James Dashner last weekend (and am still TOTALLY on a high from it), and at the end of this month I also get to meet Lauren Oliver! There were two other authors I would have liked to gone and seen, but I had to be selective. :(

    1. I know! I'm going to the Fierce Reads stop on Sunday and, possibly, the Baltimore festival. I'm not sure on that just yet. Like you said, we have to be selective. :(

  2. Awesome update!! It's always so special to meet such a fab author and your pieces look pretty great! Better than mine would have been anyway.

    1. Thank you! Even when I haven't read any of the books, I always hear great stories about writing and publishing at these events. And as for the pottery...I spent 40 minutes on the first piece, saying "Teacher!" every two seconds, but I was much faster on the next three. :)

  3. Wow! Stephanie Perkins?! That would be amazing! I feel like I am so out of the loop on author events. That and I just don't think 'big' authors come to MN!

    1. I know what you mean. Unless the authors are local, it seems like a lot of authors miss a lot of states. Maybe we can bribe them to visit MN with cookies? ;)
