Updates: New Year's Sprint

Easing into 2015? Nah. Why walk when you can sprint? Wait, sprint?! O.O

I stayed late at work twice, did library tutoring, stole a few minutes to hang out with my friend before she goes back to South Korea, and we got the first real snowfall of winter. (Which makes for very long drives. If it's not the roads, it's the other people on them. :P) Tonight is catching up with a friend I haven't seen since before the holidays (who is awesome and giving me food) and trying out a new class thing at church. Busy! :)

With all this stuff going on, you might think I haven't done much reading. You would be right. But not just because I'm busy. I've been spending a RIDICULOUS amount of time playing with the CSS on a test blog in search of a new design for Booked til Tuesday. Like, seriously ridiculous. I need to find a new design I like already and be done with it. You can check out some of the possibilities here. I'm updating the list as I go.

The other two big pieces of news are, one: Brandon Sanderson is coming to a bookstore near me this month! I've still only technically read one of his books, but Anya's excitement for everything Sanderson has infected me, so it should be lots of fun. :) Second: I got my LSAT score back, and it's high enough that I'm in the process of applying to law school. I have no idea where this will go. :)

Read:

My first read of the year! As in the first book, the first person narration is a little over the top at times, but I enjoyed the story and look forward to picking up the next one. :)

Currently Reading:

I haven't made any progress on Illusionarium, so I might take a break and try one of my other eARC's. Or just sit down and read it. Whichever comes first. ;)

That's it for this week's happenings! Thanks for stopping in and check back tomorrow for my mini-review of Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins! In which teenagers fall in love in France :)

  1. I like your most recent blog layout the most!

Congrats on the good scores! How exciting! And it's always good to be busy, makes life interesting.

    1. Thank you! The one with the blue background and text shadow? Yeah, I'm liking it, too. Not sure it's "the one," but I think I'm getting closer.

  2. I hit 2015 sprinting, too. Catching up with old friends before they head back to school, making final plans for BookCon, outlining what author events I want to go to, starting new activities - and getting back into old ones, etc. Busy year already!! :) Brandon Sanderson! I almost got to meet him myself! Sadly, flooding in the area kept me from going, but I imagine I'll get another chance next year.

    1. Haha, yep. I'm sure our New Year's enthusiasm and energy will wane quickly. ;) We'll have to meet up when you go to BookCon! I'm still going to be in NYC that Saturday and I'll probably go to the show if I'm not too exhausted and can find a place to stash my luggage. :)

    2. So far, my New Year's enthusiasm and energy has just kept building and building. Too many awesome new activities! Yes, we must! Hazel and I want to go to the Strand with you!

  3. I've been wanting to change my blog's look for so long, but I haven't html'd or css'd in sooo long it just seems to daunting.
Congrats on your test scores!! That was a quick turnaround which I'm sure you loved :)
Lastly, I am pretty excited to see what you think of that Dixon book!

    1. I know what you mean, Alyssa. There's so much time and such a steep learning curve involved, it can be intimidating. But I've also had a lot of fun learning more CSS. I'm still only a dabbler, but let me know if you want any help trying out a responsive template or something. I could throw it on a test blog and make a few tweaks for you. :)

I haven't been in a major reading mood this week (which is bad), but I'm hoping to make progress on that Dixon book very soon.

  4. Haha, I'm kind of jealous of your sprinting since I feel like I've completely wasted the first two weeks of the year D: I'm glad you enjoyed Magic Burns enough to pick up the second, the series definitely improves as it goes on ;-)

    1. Haha, no worries! Small sprints are inevitably followed by long periods of lazing about. (I have too many deadlines to make this a "long" laze, but it's still pretty lazy.) And I have now finished Magic Strikes, too, and I'm looking forward to continuing the series. :)

  5. I hate messing with blog design because I'm so freaking lazy about it. I might buy the new tweak me version two tho lol but not yet.

    1. I saw the new Tweak Me theme and (once again) thought about switching over to Wordpress, but I probably won't for now. I have no idea what will happen to the blogging schedule when/if I go to law school, so rather than commit to a paid model, a little messing about with CSS for fun continues! :)

  6. CONGRATULATIONS ON THE HIGH TEST SCORE!! And good luck applying to law school - I'm sure you'll do amazingly well. :D I've been on a bit of a sprint in the new year as well, especially since school just started for me and I've been jolted out of my lazy winter break bliss. ;) Ah well, all good things must come to an end, I suppose - and it's been lovely having some time to chill out and recharge!

    1. Thank you! I'm still figuring this (more complicated than it needs to be) application process, but I'm getting there. :) Good luck getting back in the groove for school!
