Discussion: When Big Life Changes Hit

Big news: I will officially be attending law school. I got accepted to one and start this fall. (Wow, how soon is that?) My brain is mostly occupied with figuring out whether I'll be able to go full-time or not and how that will work with my job, but I wanted to spend a quick second talking about the blog.

When big life changes hit, hobbies get shifted in the priority list. I've seen different bloggers handle it differently. Some cut back on the number of posts per week. Some solicit guest posts or co-bloggers to even out the workload. Others (Tabitha) are Wonder Woman and never seem to slow down. ;)

I'm not sure what law school will mean for Booked til Tuesday. Rest assured, I definitely plan to continue blogging. But I'm going to be doing some combination of school and work and have no illusions about how insane my schedule will be. It'll be 3-4 years of crazy. (Possibly with breaks in the summer...or not.)

So, thoughts? I know this is six months away, but I'm a planner. I want to at least gather some ideas to mull over (and maybe test-run, as in the case of a co-blogger). Besides, you're all so smart! :)

  1. I think it will be hard to know what the best choice will be until you give a shot. I would say plan on posting less frequently. Three, or even two, times a week. And CONGRATS on law school!! How awesome!

    1. Thank you! You're probably right about cutting back on posts. Then I wonder, which ones do I cut? Or do I switch out what kind I do each week? So many decisions! ;)

  2. Post less frequently, shorten reviews, and do just as much as makes you happy. Worry about the blog itself no more than that, feed readers make it easy to catch your posts as they come.

    1. I love that advice, Nathan! Enough to make me happy; not so much that I worry. Sounds good! :)

  3. Ooh, congratulations on being accepted! :) I think your blog readers will understand a lesser number of posts. After all, it's your blog, so you can do whatever you want!

    1. Thank you! Haha, being able to do whatever I want is the scary part. I know me; if I don't set some sort of schedule, I'll either freak out trying to do too much or (more likely) get lazy and fall off the face of the blogging earth. ^^; But fewer posts sounds like a logical first step. :)

  4. YEY CONGRATS!! I had no doubts to be honest ;-)

I definitely agree with what everyone else has said: just do whatever makes you happy. I know personally that I need to read otherwise I'll get really freaking whacked out (like I feel currently >.>) and I haven't been making myself be as rigid with reviewing as I used to be so I write reviews when I have the inclination and if I remember fewer details because of that, whatever!

    1. Haha, thank you! It's still a little surreal, but it's happening. I guess I'll figure out most of this stuff when it hits. Just stay flexible, right? :)

  5. Super congrats hun!

School is so stressful itself, you shouldn't stress about your blog too. I agree with all the above comments, cut back on how many days you post and do what makes you happy.

    1. Thank you! Cutting back on posts (at least the ones that take the most time) will probably have to be done. Sad but true. :(

  6. Congrats, Kel!!! I'm sure you'll figure out a way to keep this blog going. As long as you're happy and not stressed it's all that matters. :)

    1. Thank you, Jess! "Happy" and "school" tend to be mutually exclusive, but we'll figure something out. ;) And I tend to be more productive when mildly stressed, so who knows? I might even get more done on the blog. :)

  7. Congratulations!!!!! It'll be hard to figure out a schedule that works until you know your school/work schedule, but I agree with everyone else, post the same things, just a little less often. If your blog is a hobby, don't let it become something that stresses you out, it's supposed to be fun.

    1. You can never have too many reminders to not worry and keep it fun. Thank you all for keeping me grounded! :)

  8. Congrats!! The thing I found to be my best friend when I was juggling school and blogging was pre-scheduling posts. I usually took one day and prepped all of my posts for the week. Sit down and do it and it's all done.

    1. Scheduling posts will probably be a must. I'm not good about it now, but I can't see my current method working well once school starts. Good point!

  9. If you ever want to chat law school, blogging, juggling the two or anything else just shoot me an email :)

I started my blog in 2011 when I was a 1L in law school, so I know how tough it can be. ;)

    1. Thank you! I very well may, especially when the madness starts in August. I'm still not sure exactly how the whole law school, work, blogging mix is going to play out. ^^;
