Random Amusement: Travel, Workshops, Layouts & More

I dream of one day traveling the world. Which means I occasionally spend hours perusing travel blogs and tips. >.> It's not really a possibility, at least not for a couple years or more, but here are a few articles I found that got me thinking future travel plans. Both are from World of Wanderlust, which I highly recommend checking out. :)

Home Depot Free Weekly Workshops:
I've never tried these before, but I signed up for two the weekend after I get back from Florida and will report back. Has anyone tried an HD workshop or something similar? If not, would you consider trying one, or are you already home-handy? Or perhaps you're like me and Google or YouTube everything? ;)

Top Five Book Layout Mistakes:
I haven't done tons with layout since my college Pub Layout & Design class, but I love learning about what goes into the making of a book. These are five things I'm so used to seeing in books, I never think about them; but I think I would notice and be distracted if they were done differently.

I got an email from these folks looking for links to add to their weekly roundup lists and asking me to check out the site and maybe plug it. I gave it a look and, while it's probably not for me, I can see lots of other readers liking it. Their big features are weekly new release lists in several genres (including YA), author interviews, reviews and "Book News" roundups.

The downside of the site, for me, is the lack of clear separation; there seems to be a lot of overlap (e.g., author interviews show up under Author Interviews, New Releases and Book News). I was expecting and hoping for different--like just new release lists under New Releases (without author interviews, reviews, etc.) and just news lists or articles under Book News (without author interviews, etc.).

As far as I can see, there's no quick click label to get me straight to the very narrow post listings I'd want to see, and I don't really keep up with week to week release info anyway. If the email signup allowed me to only subscribe to only blog post/news article round-ups, I'd go for it, but with all the other content thrown in, it's not for me. On the other hand, I know plenty of people who would love the mix of author interviews, reviews and book news. If that sounds good to you, it may be worth a look.

This has been Random Amusement. Are you amused? :)

  1. I wish I could travel the world, it's always sounded like it would be impossible but amybe one day..:D

    1. That's what I keep saying. Keep saving and maybe one day it'll be possible. :)
