Updates: Home Again, Work Again

I survived--dare I say, thrived--at my first ever BEA! (Check out my recap post and click on all the collages to see all the pretty pictures!) Unfortunately, it may be my last for some time depending on scheduling, finances, etc. AKA, we'll see how dead and broke I am at the end of my first year of law school. But it would be wonderful to go again, especially since certain people couldn't make it this year.

I've found returning home after BEA is a double-edged sword. The good thing about returning from BEA is sleep, dog, full fridge and BOOKS!

Behold the book haul! I'm actually really proud of myself. With two or three exceptions, I stuck to my pre-planned list of books to grab, and I'm sure I can get through these before school starts! Also, when I came back, my library finally had A Darker Shade of Magic waiting for me! I'm so glad to finally pick up where the sampler left off.

The bad thing about returning from BEA:
I'm still playing catch-up, but the desk is slowly becoming visible again. :)

Also, exciting news! While talking with another South Jersey-an at BEA, I learned about Bookitcon, which is a one-day book convention thing with author signings, panels, and a book drive with most proceeds benefiting a local library that flooded. And it's close! If you're in the NJ, Philly, NYC, or even Delaware of Maryland areas, definitely take a look!

Finally, after a hot and humid BEA, and cold and rainy today, I'm ready for a clear, sunny beach day to relax and take a long walk. Or just chill. Do you guys have any fun plans for the start of summer?

That's it for this week's happenings! Thanks for stopping in and check back tomorrow for my review of Powerless by Tera Lynn Childs and Tracy Deebs! In which superheroes. And villains. :)

    1. Agreed! It's slowly getting better, but right now I'm in the midst of a motion opposition that has me starting to understand the phrase "I can't even." :P

  2. It looks like you had an amazing time at BEA! And you got some INCREDIBLE books! I hope you love, love, love them all I have never been to BEA, because of law school. haha it is a time killer, that's for sure. But now that I have been at my job for about a year, I think I will be able to take some time off to attend next year. Where are you going to law school? I just graduated in 2013.

I hope you have a fantastic week :) Happy Reading!

    1. I start at Rutgers Camden this fall! Which will almost certainly keep me from BEA next year. But I'll have these books and memories to tide me over for three years--maybe less if it comes back to NYC. ;)

  3. Ooo good haul. I'm jealous of the Kate Elliott book. I always say you need a vacation after your vacation before going back to work ;)

    1. Thank you! I have high hopes for Court of Fives. At the very least, I think you need a day with the office door locked to figure out what's in the piles of stuff you missed before allowing any new papers in. Or a robot to catch up for you. ;)

  4. Awesome Book Haul! I know what you mean about getting back home. Mara and I were both very tired after BookCon. It was very fun though. Getting back to the daily grind is really hard for me, especially after a very stressful train ride on the way home haha. Now I just have to find room for all my new books! Again, it was great meeting you at BookCon!

    1. That is one LONG train ride! I'd say look into Spirit flights to AC next time, but they're moving to Chicago. :(

It was wonderful meeting you, too! Good luck re-acclimating and finding room for all those books!

  5. Omg I know EXACTLY what you mean about this:

"That moment when you see your desk buried in papers and your vacation high dies a swift death."

I returned home to 200+ unread emails, about 10 support tickets to handle, and a mountain of work to complete. I feel like I need a vacation after my "vacation" (BEA).

You got a wonderful pile of books and I hope you enjoy them!

    1. Thank you! I can't believe I missed meeting you though. Five bucks says we passed each other at least 20 times on the Exhibit Floor. :P I guess I'll have to shoot you a tweet whenever I finally get around to visiting the UK. One day!

200+ emails and 10 support tickets?! Okay, not surprising considering you're you, but yeah, a vacation is definitely sounding nice. Or at least a beach day. ;)

  6. It was so awesome seeing you at BookCon! That trip definitely took it out of me, even though it was fun. I have lots planned for the summer, but I'm not going to think about it for a couple more days until I'm well rested. ;)

    1. You too! Traveling can definitely take it out of you, especially when long flights are involved. Good luck with your summer plans!
