Semester Ends, Christmas Begins

I'm dreaming of a whitewarm Christmas. I'm visiting the sister and attending a wedding in Florida, which I hear is somewhere in the 70°s and 80°s. Although, we've been having pretty warm weather here the past few days. I think we hit 75° yesterday afternoon. It was absolutely beautiful. If this is global warming, bring it on! ;) Of course, looks like we're back to normal December temperatures this weekend, so best enjoy it while it lasts.

I have one more exam and paper to complete, and then I'll scramble to pack and get Christmas presents in order. We aren't doing much this year, but I found the same Santa countdown decoration my parents have on eBay and, with a little craftiness, will be giving that to the sister (who never reads my blog and kind of already knows she's getting it, so I'm (hopefully) not ruining the surprise).

See all those little hearts? That are super easy to lose? Well, we've never lost one, but this set is missing two, so I'm trying to track down some good .5mm gold metallic cord to fix our extras. And then a white paint pen for some new numbers and we're all set! A gift card would have been easier, it's true, but Christmas spirit and nostalgia are worth it. And I'll totally hold this over her head next time I need her to attend a book signing for me. ;)

After buying a grand total of 1 book this whole year ($0.99 ebook with audiobook included), I broke down and went to the library's book sale. It was half-off. I was weak. The results:

$3 total. No shame. Of course, then I went to the local used book store, which I haven't been to all year and picked up After the Golden Age...and promptly stayed up late reading the whole thing in one go. It's a bit of an homage to superheroes and stars the powerless daughter of the city's best. There's a nice mix of humor and depth and a touch of romance. I liked it. :)

I'm so close to making this year's (adjusted) reading goal! I sped through a couple of free romance ebooks last weekend which--while predictable, way too showing over telling, and not especially enjoyable--are super quick, so you finish them anyway. Evil genius, I tell you. Can't say I recommend either one, but we're one step closer to the goal!

And I'm making a list of books to take to Florida with me. Which will hopefully include a certain NetGalley eARC for which my request has been pending for a WEEK. The wait is killing me because I'm super excited for this one. Like, forget about exam studying and read it NOW excited. I also have an Edelweiss eARC that's been waiting in the wings for half the semester. I'm proud though. I was extra picky about requesting eARCs and I'm really looking forward to this one. :)

Also, I had a great time hosting my first Twitter giveaway! Congrats again to Katie on winning!

Two are gone, but the rest will be joining a large stack of ARCs in a post-Christmas giveaway, so keep an eye on my Twitter feed the week after Christmas.

Merry Christmas to all, don't drop your candle on anyone at Christmas Eve service (no matter how naughty they've been, Jesus still loves them, even if Santa doesn't) and enjoy all the silly TCM and Hallmark Christmas movies!

  1. You can't pass up a library sale! That would be nonsense :)
Good luck on that Goodreads goal, I know you can make it!

    1. Even though I combed it through pretty thoroughly the first time, I might have to go back. They're down to $1 for a whole bag of books and $2 for a box! Thanks, Alyssa!

  2. You got awesome books at the library! Way to go! That gift for your sister was so sweet! I hope you had a great Christmas!

    1. Thanks, Missie! Christmas went pretty well. I still can't believe I walked a sunny beach with warm water on Christmas day. It's so different from the usual cold and cuddled up with a book and blanket. (The book still made an appearance.) Hope you have a happy new year!
