Interning and #booksfortrade
Kel Wednesday, June 22, 2016 discussionThe internship is going well. Which is good since it's short. There's really only enough time for it to go well or badly, one or the other. Luckily, it looks like we'll be sticking with the former. :) The only dark side is the somewhat lengthy commute, but the work day starts and ends earlier than my usual, so I still get home around the same time.
In other news, I decided to try this whole #booksfortrade and #booksforsale thing on Twitter.

I've never felt pickier in my life, and I feel so bad saying no to people who want these books. My inner librarian just wants to get books into the hands of excited readers! But I also don't want to trade for stuff I know I'll never read. Unfortunately, I bought a lot of the older books I wanted in recent years, so most of the stuff on my wishlist is newer. (I'm sorry!)
I think it's so cool that this kind of system where readers from all over can trade books exists, but it also has the analytical/hypothesizing side of my brain spinning. I'm wondering...if I'm getting rid of X book I don't like and you're interested in X book, what are the chances your options will be like X book I didn't like and therefore incompatible with my wish list? ... >.>
I don't think it really works like that since each book is different and reading is such a ridiculously subjective experience, but I'd be interested in hearing if anyone has seen certain trends.
Edit: I have discovered the dark side of #booksfortrade: you spend all your time fielding tweets about it (at least until you the popular stuff is taken and/or your post gets too old to be noticed) and don't have any time to read your current books. ^^;
That's it for now! If all goes well, tomorrow I shall make brownies (soft and chewy, not hard and burned) and make all the peoples at the internship love me and want to give me good recommendations. ;)
