Series I'm Loving in 2017

This week's Top 10 Tuesday topic is "best books you've read in 2017 so far." I've read 24 books this year. About half of those were not great. A number of the good ones are from series, so today we'll talk about . . .

Series I'm Loving in 2017

The Others by Anne Bishop - I didn't realize I was reading the last book until the very end, but it closed out nicely. I'm really sad to leave these guys behind. I could totally read another five books just about daily life in the Courtyard. It's been a great series (which I'll likely reread many times), and even though this story is done, the author has a new book set in this world out next spring. I don't know if it'll be an auto-buy like these were, but I'm definitely checking it out.

The Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews - This was my first real taste of urban fantasy. I came to the game late, but that meant I got to binge read most of the series. It's up to 9 books plus a handful of companion novels/novellas. If you're looking for action, adventure and snark, this is it. I think there's one more book plus a companion novel currently planned. I feel like it's reaching the end of an arc, but I'd be totally fine with it continuing for another 5-10 books.

The Innkeeper Chronicles by Ilona Andrews - It's a strange mix of magic, technology, aliens, vampires, sentient houses and everything in between, but it works really well. I think what really keeps me hooked though--besides the action, adventure and mystery--is the humor. Did you know coffee is like super potent alcohol to vampires?

Castle Glower by Jessica Day George - I just started this series this year and have a lot of catching up to do, but I'm looking forward to it. I think there are 5 books out so far, and I can't wait for more whimsical, yet deadly(?), adventures in the semi-sentient Castle Glower.

What series are you loving this year? Have you read any of these?

  1. I just started The Others series!! OMGOSH Obsessed with them! I got the first one out of the library after a friend from bookstagram recommended the books and I loved it so much I bought the first three books already! I can't wait to binge the rest of the series! :)

    1. YES!! You picked the perfect time to start. I loved reading them, but waiting a year in between installments? I could have devoured all 5 at once. Enjoy the binge reading!

  2. I have heard so many great things about The Others series! That is one I would really like to get to. This year has been really rough for me and series. I have started a few that I did enjoy the first book of (Defy the Stars, Royal Bastards, and The Valiant) but as for sequels and series finales... it's been some bad luck so far! Thanks for sharing these, hope you continue to enjoy them!

    1. You should! I hate that it's over (the first main story, anyway), but I'm glad that it's over because now I can tell people I liked every book and it didn't get any less entertaining. Thanks, Shannon! :)

  3. Hey Kel, how've you been? It's been a while! When I saw this post I knew I had to comment, I've been smashing through Ilona Andrew's series. 1st it was the InnKeepers, then onto Kate Daniels, and I'm already on the 5th book of that series...loveee when it's a good long series (already released!) that I can just plow through! It's been a while since I've found a series I can do that with. Another unknown author Caitlin Spice(The Silver Path) has knocked me out of the park with her skill in storytelling, some of the best work I've ever read. You should check her out, I have a feeling you'd get hooked! Not the normal happy endings but gives a dose of reality in dark fairytale lore. Happy Reading, maybe we'll meet at The Strand again someday!

    1. Hi, Samantha! I'm glad you're loving the Innkeepers and Kate Daniels. I think there are supposed to be two more books in the latter series coming out soon. One's a companion novel, but it's about Hugh, which sounds like a lot of fun!

I hadn't heard of Caitlin Spice, but I'll definitely check those books out! Thank you! And meeting at The Strand again would be wonderful! I didn't make it out to BookExpo or BookCon this May, but maybe next year. :)
