August Recap: New Apartment and New Job

It's been another long month. I've basically been working all month, except for moving days, and I didn't get a ton of reading done.

The move itself was a little . . . never ending, haha? I was kind of half-moved in but still working near the old place for a couple weeks. Long story short: I don't recommend piecemeal moving.

Strange though it is, this is actually my first time living completely alone (no family, roomies, dog) for an extended stretch of time. It's definitely an adjustment, but I'm getting there. And the dog/parents are close enough for weekend trips when I need my dog fix. Which works well since they need a dog sitter later this month. ;)

It probably says something that the first show I pulled up to watch upon moving was "North & South," where the southern country girl struggles to adapt to the more crowded, urban north, lol.

(actual picture of me trying to find the turn Google Maps says to take)
But we've moved past that initial "what have I done?" stage, and now I'm mainly watching silly, brainless stuff.

The good news: I've been in the new place for a little over a week, the apartment is pretty decent, and I got my TV and internet all set up, so we're good to go! I also got a library card...

So yeah, I'm adjusting to the new work schedule, trying to find some folks to play a little tennis, and generally trying to catch up on books and TV before Bar Studying 2.0 hits. :) Oh, and I just got an Instant Pot and have no idea what I'm doing, so if you have any favorite easy recipes, feel free to share!

I feel a little boring, not having more to report or talk about, but c'est la vie. Hopefully I'll read fewer "meh" books this month, and I've been playing with the idea of drawing little life cartoons. Does anyone else do that?

Hope y'all are doing well and surviving this heat wave!

  1. Yay! Congrats on your new job and new apartment! (I really loved living alone. lol) And I would love to hear if you find any good insta pot recipes. I'm looking for some too! What kind of job did you get?

    1. Thanks, Michelle! It's an appellate clerkship, and the whole alone thing isn't too bad...although it's so WEIRD not having my dog around. I'll definitely let you know if I find any good recipes! I talked to two people at work who have Instant Pots, and they both said they kind of ignore the manual and play it by ear, lol.

  2. Yay for the new place!! I've never lived by myself, but I did have an apartment with a roommate who was barely around, it was kinda nice, lol.

    1. It's definitely different! And means no leftovers to scrounge from...but I'm slowly becoming more of a cook and less of a vulture (i.e., stocking up on freezer pizzas ^^).

  3. I am doing the piecemeal move as we speak! And you are right, it is a nightmare because I don't think it actually ends? You're my only proof that there might actually be an endpoint hahah. Congrats on being done and being all settled with internet and TV (that's even more important than like, furniture and stuff, right?) and the new job! I hope you take some time to recuperate, because you deserve and need it! (Also I laughed at your Google maps caption, killed me!!)

    1. I know, right?! I had that old Lambchop song stuck in my head all month, except it was, "This is the move that never ends! And it goes on and on my friends!" (Technically, most of my books are still residing elsewhere, but hopefully that project is a year away.) I'm taking little breaks here and there, but there's always more on the to-do list. -_- You know how it goes. Oh, and slowly learning my way around this area. So many jug handles!
