30: Am I Officially Old?

So...

Um...you know what, let's just ignore that question in the title, haha.

Instead, how about a quick recap? I mean, honestly, there are a bunch of things I haven't done at 30 that I think most people have. But I've also done a lot of things already that plenty of people haven't at 30 or beyond. I guess the moral of that story is: we all go at our own pace?

I've gotten to do some pretty cool stuff. In the last couple years alone, I've played tennis, attempted archery, visited Scotland, helped a client apply for 501(c)(3) status, mediated real court cases, passed two bar exams, clerked for an appellate judge, joined a law firm, lived alone for the first time, read a ton of books, met lots of incredible people (online and in person), participated in #OTSPsecretsister and #TBTBSanta, and proofread a book.

I won't lie. There are days when I feel like I'm behind the curve somehow or get FOMO. Prime example: there are people who went straight from undergrad to law school and have already been practicing for 3-4 years. Some days I wonder where I'd be now if I'd done that. Then I stop, because it's a useless exercise, and because I remember God has a plan and I can't mess it up. So enough looking back at stuff I can't change. Let's see where this train goes.

And wherever life goes next, whatever I do or don't do, and however old I get, the important stuff stays the same, right? So that's what I'm going to aim for in this new decade (although "new decade" still hurts to say ^^): being kinder, more loving, more generous, more faithful, more selfless, more focused on people, and more grateful and joyful.

Thank you to everyone who's walked through this last year with me. Let's go make 30 amazing.

(Looks shiny and new-ish. Also reminder to me to continue The 100 and discuss with Shannon. Also, I just cut my hair.)

  1. Hey, I turned 30 this year (June)! I don't feel old yet... Does that count? ;) This is my first time participating is #OTSPSecretSister and I'm having a blast! I cannot wait to tell my person who I am at the end of the 6 months. <3

    1. It totally counts! And I'm so glad you're loving OTSP! It just brightens up the internet. Added bonus: non-bill snail mail. It always makes me think of that line in The Sound of Music: "Brown paper packages tied up with string: these are a few of my favorite things!" :)

    1. Thank you, Michelle! I'm not sure exactly how, but I think 30 will be the best year yet.

  3. That gif just made my DAY hahah. Also I know that 30 sounds old, but it's not, at almost 37, I am still not the adultiest adult in any room and frankly that's all that matters. But I think you nailed it with us all moving at our own pace. I have felt like such a failure the past few years (no career, starting over financially, etc) and like. You're so right, we just can't compare this stuff! Anyway, I hope not just this year, but the whole damn thirties treat you FABULOUSLY because you deserve ALL the good things ♥♥♥

    P.S. Go watch The 100.

    1. The crypt keeper gif or the The 100 one? ;) It reminds me of when we were kids and thought 20 was ANCIENT, lol. It's all relative. And I know what you mean. It can feel like it at times, but you are in no way, shape, or form a failure. Thank you, Shannon!!

P.S. New goal for October: watch at least one episode of The 100. ;)
